Brooklyn Tins wallpaper was designed by French concept store Merci, based in artistic Haut-Marais in Paris. The popularity among customers of their tin counter is what drove Merci to initiate a collaboration with NLXL to create a wallpaper based on the tin tiles found in North American warehouses and factories at the turn of the 19th century. The stamped tin tiles were originally used as a more affordable alternative to the highly wrought plasterwork of European homes during this period. By the late 19th century and early 20th century, they were being mass-produced as thin rolled tin tiles but today, with their worn and rusted appearance, they have an authentic appeal as an icon of American architecture.
